Kyle Hudson Ishmael, Executive Director of
the New York State Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic and Asian Legislative Caucus.

The son of Saint Lucian Chester Ishmael and Vincentian Patricia Soso, Kyle has maintained a personal passion for advocating, educating, and building consensus. As a graduate of St. John’s University and Thomas Jefferson School of Law, he honed his legal skills in the areas of family and administrative law, public policy and politics.

Through the years, Kyle has served as Attorney General of the National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA), leading the Association’s advocacy initiatives – resulting in the signing of legislation by President Barack Obama that enhanced federal prosecution of hate crimes.

Kyle also successfully led efforts to amend NBLSA’s constitution, broadening its anti-discrimination policies to cover disability and sexual orientation. His work on Capitol Hill aided the vetting and eventual confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Sonya Sotomayor. He has served as a family lawyer, paralegal professor, and legal volunteer at Hillary for America and as a judge for youth debates.

His professional experiences include work in legislative, judicial and city government. Currently, he is the Executive Director of the New York State Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic and Asian Legislative Caucus where he manages the legislative and programmatic efforts of the second largest minority State legislative caucus in the United States.
