Gros Islet MP Lenard “Spider” Montoute has announced that effective tomorrow, May 20, the La Retraite bridge will be closed, paving the way for the official commencement of the bridge’s reconstruction and the La Retraite Road Rehabilitation project. Montoute stated that the bridge will be closed “for a period of 3 weeks” to allow for the construction of an entirely new bridge, which the Ministry of Infrastructure says will provide better and safer access for drivers and pedestrians.
He stated that commencing Monday, May 25th, work will officially commence on the rehabilitation of the La Retraite road, “which involves the reconstruction of approximately 1217 meters of road. The project scope also includes the construction of drainage, retaining walls and road realignment.”
Montoute apologized for any inconveniences motorists and pedestrians may encounter during the construction period and thanked residents for their patience and understanding. “We are continuing to improve the road network across the constituency of Gros Islet to make the commuting journey for motorists and pedestrians smoother and safer,” he said.
