Picturesque Rudi John Beach Park in Laborie was blazing hot holiday Thursday, not just from the scoring temperature but heat generated from Emancipation Day Aqua Action, most notably a homemade bikini contest.

Last year at this time organizers staged a free musical concert for Emancipation Day there, but felt this time around changes were needed. Well known entertainment promoter Russell Lake was contacted to assist with this year’s event which incorporated several activities including beach volleyball, a small goals football tournament, boat racing, swimming, a homemade bikini competition and the grand finale, a musical concert featuring well known entertainers like Ricky T, Yardi, Herb Black and others at a show that ended in the early morning.

In the swimming competition under the direction of Coach Andy Edwards, Christian Andrew and Mark Emmanus were the top performers placing first and second in two events.

While the concert attracted some big name performers, undoubtedly the homemade bikini competition stole the show and got temperatures rising. Fourteen young ladies strutted their stuff in bikinis that left very little if anything to the imagination. Sha Diamond was positively a crowd favourite. She was sweet to look at wearing a colourful bikini made from skittles but had to settle for fourth place.

Top spot went to Yannika whose rope and lime bikini was a real eye catcher. In second place was Shania for her coconut and tinsel creation while Ciel placed third with a beaded yellow and black bikini. The young ladies will be recognized later at a prize giving ceremony.

Lake pointed out that the objective of the Emancipation Day Aqua Action was to raise funds for the Laborie Stars Sports and Cultural Club and also to introduce in the south, the health supplement Caribbean Moringa which has enormous health benefits.

Lake thanked the many sponsors who made the event a success and made special mention of Mitchell Clive and Burton Thomas of ARD Fishing Supplies referring to them as “the premiere organizers of Emancipation Day Aqua Action.”

For some Aqua Action was fun simply goofing off with friends.
