[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Landings Resort and Spa has undertaken ambitious and far-reaching community outreach programmes aimed at poverty reduction, development of the arts and culinary fields, the empowerment of women and youth enrichment. With key milestones achieved in the first half of the year, including a Women’s Day Dinner honouring unsung heroes, Jazz on the Beach showcasing local artistes, and culinary training for secondary school students, its dedicated team is ready to serve the community with its five-star appeal for the second half of the year. Its most recent campaigns are part of its youth development and educational activities.
This summer students from various institutions including the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, the St. Mary College and CARE are actively participating in a training endeavour at the resort that is intended to prepare them for the working world. The students are working closely with the culinary, front desk, spa and housekeeping departments, acquiring crucial skills needed to excel in the hospitality industry.
When asked about their experience so far, the student trainees noted that they are gaining a better understanding of the hospitality industry and are happy for the opportunity afforded by The Landings.
Further, in an effort to continue its youth development programmes, the resort has launched the Pack for Purpose campaign to provide supplies for under-privileged students in the community. The purpose of the initiative is not only to provide school supplies for students in need, but to bridge the educational gap through corporate and community partnerships. The resort aims to make this initiative an annual one, seeking support from its staff, local and international corporate partners and guests.
The hotel’s General Manager, Mr. Wilbert Mason, has applauded the efforts of the team at The Landings Resort and Spa stating, “We are proud to bring hope to the community at large, and champion education and youth development in any way possible by adding value through our outreach programmes which also include mentorship sessions around the island throughout the academic year.” He added that the resort will continue to work with key stakeholders to help shape the “ next generation through education and mentorship whenever possible”.
The Pack for Purpose drive will continue throughout the summer with donations to be distributed in time for the new school year.
