[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he media fraternity is mourning the loss of one of their own. Journalist Lawrence James passed away at Victoria Hospital on Tuesday, March 21 following a lengthy illness.
James was the Editor at the Mirror Newspaper. Previously, he worked for several years at the Voice Newspaper. He began his newspaper career there as an Assistant Proof Reader then was transferred to the Editorial Department assuming the position of Junior Reporter.
During his tenure at the Voice and Mirror Newspapers, James covered a variety of news events and in particular, excelled in sports coverage. He is among the recipients of the Sports Media Person of the Year at the Annual National Sports Awards.
Those who knew him described this respected journalist as a dependable, quiet and unassuming individual who displayed a high level of professionalism in all aspects of his work.
Lawrence dedicated much of his time to the St Lucia Cadet Corps and rose to the rank of Major. He was also a founding member of the Blue Dragon Karate Association of St Lucia.
The Caribbean Sports Journalists’ Association (CASJA) extended condolences to the family and friends of the late Lawrence James affectionately known as LJ, and offer their thoughts and prayers to his family, friends and the media fraternity during this difficult time.
