LIME Provides Free Communications for Live Broadcast of 36th Independence

St. Lucia’s only full telecommunications service provider, LIME is partnering with the Standing National Independence Anniversary Committee to boost the celebration of Saint Lucia’s 36th anniversary of Independence.

LIME is providing the Committee with the telecommunications infrastructure to facilitate live radio and TV broadcasts of the Ecumenical Service/Day of Prayer at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Friday, 20th February as well as the National Military Parade at the Sab/Vigie Sporting Facility and the National Celebratory Rally at the Philip Marcelin Ground in Vieux Fort, both of which are scheduled for Sunday 22nd February, Independence Day, 9am and 3pm respectively. Members of the public will be able to follow all three events simulcast via NTN (Channel 37), as well as the government’s web portal, www.govt.lc. It is expected that other local stations will join the broadcast.

Chairperson of the Standing National Independence Anniversary Committee, Mr. Darrel Montrope, said, “The Government of Saint Lucia deeply appreciates the support we’ve received from LIME for this year’s Independence celebrations. It will assist us greatly in our efforts at decentralising the activities by including the south of the island in the various events, and ensuring that the main activities are broadcast not just locally but to Saint Lucians throughout the world.”

Every year LIME partners with the government to assist with preparations for Independence celebrations. Last year the company provided telecommunications coverage for Independence activities at the Beausejour National Stadium free of charge, and was a major sponsor of the Jete Dance Competition which formed part of the activities.

LIME contributes to the island’s major activities and overall development through provision of service on an ongoing basis with initiatives like free broadband to primary and secondary schools, as well as a number of community libraries.
