[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he National Utilities Regulatory Commission (NURC) marked its two years of functionality with the launch of a website for better communication with utility consumers.
In February 2016, under the National Utilities Regulatory Act, number 23, the NURC was established to replace the National Water and Sewerage Commission. According to the Chairman of the NURC, Victor Poyotte, the commission undertook a number of initiatives including planning and designing a website.
On Friday February 9, members, stakeholders and consumers of the NURC gathered at the Ministry of Infrastructure, Ports, Energy and Labour in Union, Castries for the official presentation of the website.
The primary function of the NURC is to regulate utility supply services for electricity, water and sewerage and, by extension, electricity generation. The NURC’s responsibilities include, under regulation 19 of the aforementioned Act, the maintenance of a website “designed to keep the public appraised on questions of substantial public significance.”
NURC’s CEO, Jerome Jules, was pleased to announce, “The site provides users with access to policy documents, legislation, consultation documents, licensing guidelines as well as the ability to launch and track complaints online.”
The final feature listed was also highlighted during the video presentation of the website and assurances were made that consumers with complaints should expect a response form NURC personnel within 24 hours of complaint. Website users will also be able to track the progress of their complaints from the comfort of their
homes.
The NURC’s website will assist in sharing information with consumers as the NURC has recognized the limitations with media circulation. In addition, running and maintaining a website is also the most effective communications resource during continuous modernization.
Simultaneously, the website will create a more convenient option for consumers to provide feedback of NURC’s
services. NURC representatives placed emphasis on the ease of access on the website describing it as user-friendly and a timesaving mode of contact. The accessibility of the website will provide an alternative to visiting physical locations or making lengthy calls.
This website was created by the information technology services company, Converge. All consumers are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the features of
