Maraj beats the clock in time trial

Kurt Maraj going all out in Sunday’s 43 km Individual Time Trial.

Is there no stopping Cyclist of the Year Kurt Maraj? Obviously not!  After winning last Sunday’s 88 km road race he was back at it again blasting his way to victory in Sunday’s 43 km Individual Time Trial.
In winning the event, Maraj set a new course record when he covered the distance in 59:09.19 averaging 43.61 km/hr. The time bettered the old mark by 54 seconds. He finished over four minutes ahead of his nearest rival Winston “Stoney” Williams.
The field was thin as only six riders showed up on a rainy Sunday morning including Kirk Maraj, his twin brother. Kirk was all set to compete but on this day was merely a spectator. That’s because his bike’s fork broke after it fell from his car while being transported to the race.

Jordan Richard was the only junior cyclist competing in Sunday’s competition.

Cyclists left at various intervals with Kurt Maraj being the last to leave. He caught up with Chester Forde who had a two minute head start at about the 16 km mark. That’s when Forde decided to throw in the towel.
Williams was the next target for Maraj. Having left three minutes ahead he was caught at the 27 km mark of the 43 km event.
Fidel Edsnard placed third with a time of 1:10.44 averaging 36.48 km/hr.
Jordan Richard the only junior to show up, rode the stipulated 20km Time Trial distance for juniors and covered the distance in 32:21.61 while averaging 37.21 km/hr.
