Mass Shooting among Many Incidents Reported by Emergency Services over the Weekend

For the weekend of the 11th to 14th of February, 2022, the Saint Lucia Fire Service made eighty-three ambulance responses. Five of those were to motor vehicular incidents and two to physical assaults. There were two shooting incidents and two fire calls recorded for the period.

Fire at Agard

Officers at the Fire Service Headquarters responded to a call relating to a structural fire at Agard in Morne du Don on Friday 11 February at approximately 7:00 p.m. 

The fire suppression team found a single storey residential structure of concrete construction measuring approximately 40 x 30 feet fully engulfed in flames. With assistance from the Babonneau Fire Station, the fire was fully extinguished with no damage to other properties. However, the structure and its contents were fully destroyed. No persons were reported injured as it relates to this incident.

Shooting in Dennery

At 1:35 a.m. on Saturday 12 February, personnel from the Dennery Fire Station responded to a call relating to an alleged shooting incident at Belmont in Dennery.

The responding officers found a male individual in the care of Police Officers. He was transferred to the ambulance where an assessment revealed that he sustained a penetrating wound to his body. The patient was provided rapid emergency transportation to the OKEU Hospital, where he was left in the care of medical personnel.

Stabbing at Serenity Park

At approximately 8:30 p.m. on Saturday 12 February, personnel from the Fire Service Headquarters responded to a call relating to a stabbing incident at Serenity Park in Castries.

The responding officers found an injured male individual nursing a wound to his abdomen. An assessment revealed that he sustained a penetrating wound to his body. The patient’s wound was treated and he was transferred to the ambulance and rapid emergency transportation was provided. He was handed over to medical personnel at the OKEU Hospital in a stable condition.

Mass Shooting at Coolie Town

Emergency personnel at the Fire Service Headquarters with the assistance of the Babonneau Fire Station, on Sunday 13 February, at approximately 8:30 p.m., responded to a call relating to an alleged mass casualty shooting incident at Coolie Town in Castries.  

The responding crews were informed that seven individuals were injured in the incident.  One male individual, was found lying on his back with apparent injuries to his body. He was immediately transferred to an awaiting ambulance for further assessment and treatment. One female individual was found seated inside of a dwelling structure complaining of pain to her arm. She was escorted to an ambulance for an assessment, which revealed that she sustained penetrating wounds to her body. Another female individual was found lying on her back on the side of the road complaining of severe body pain. An assessment revealed that she sustained several penetrating wounds to her body.  The three individuals were provided rapid emergency transportation to the OKEU Hospital for further medical care and treatment. They remained in a stable condition en route to the medical facility.

Three other individuals were found on the scene, however, due to obvious signs of death, they were left in the care of Police Officers.

Another male individual, who sustained a penetrating wound to his hand, was transported via private means to the OKEU hospital.

Motor vehicular Accident in Micoud

  • Officers at the Micoud Fire Station responded to a call relating to a motor vehicular incident near the Anse Ger bridge in Micoud on Sunday 13 February at approximately 1:00 a.m.  

Emergency personnel found a young female individual being carried from under the bridge to the road by civilians. It was reported that the vehicle that she was driving, ran off the road after coming into contact with a pole and that she was the sole occupant of the vehicle. The patient complained of pain to her leg and back. She was fully immobilized and transported to the St. Jude Hospital in a stable condition.
