[dropcap]A[/dropcap]s the island commemorated National Cancer Survivors Day on Sunday June 3, 2018, the membership of Faces of Cancer St. Lucia along with cancer survivors gathered at Serenity Park in Castries to hear Mayor Peterson D. Francis read a proclamation for cancer survivors and all others affected by the disease.
In his delivery, His Worship encouraged those in attendance to celebrate the occasion blissfully and endure patience as the Government works assiduously towards better healthcare for all.
“Presently, a vast majority of underemployed and unemployed have no medical insurance coverage to assist with the cost associated with cancer, but we now know that help is on the way as our Government is working towards National Health Insurance for all Saint Lucians,’’ said Mayor Francis.
“Because of the burden a cancer survivor can put on the workplace and community, this produces difficulty to survivors in finding or keeping employment. We are hoping that corporate St. Lucia will become more sympathetic in handling the plight of the cancer survivor, who most times are burdened and ongoing physical, psychological, and financial struggles.’’
Mayor Francis gave his commitment that his office will continue to support the efforts of Faces of Cancer St. Lucia.
