Medals for St Lucia at CARIFTA Games!

LIME, which is the title sponsor for the 2011 CARIFTA Games currently taking place in Jamaica, introduced the St Lucia track and field team to the media at a press conference Thursday at their Blue Coral outlet.

LIME is contributing close to $10,000, in assisting the St Lucian team with their travel expenses to the CARIFTA Games.

While addressing the athletes and officials, LIME Corporate Communications Executive, Terry Finisterre said: “We at LIME wish you the members of the St Lucian team the very best in Jamaica and assure you that LIME is very proud of what you have accomplished so far and we look forward to you achieving more wonderful things.”

Here are the members of Team St Lucia beginning with the Under-17 age group. Verlyn Taylor, female 100 metres (m); Denzel St Marthe, boy’s javelin; Akhenaton Pierre, boys 400 m.

Under-20 Girls: Janelle Scheper, high jump.  Under-20 Boys, Nicarge Arnold, long jump; Micheal James,1500 m; Marbeq Edgar, 1500 m.

Sharnique Leonce competes in the girl’s pentathlon. Shem Edward will look to capture his third medal in pole vault along with teammate Sylvester Charles (Pole Vault St Lucia) who is making his first debut in the event at Carifta.

The team which left the island on Thursday, is coached by Henry Bailey and Victoria Despaigne (Cuba), with former President of the St Lucia Athletics Association, Wayne Burton, the Team Manager.

How will St Lucia do at this year’s CARIFTA ?

Burton said: “This time around while I would not want to say the colour of the medals, I would want to indicate that we have targeted at least four medals for the team. We have a 10 member team and expect everyone to achieve their personal best. We have at least four medal hopes.”

Expected on the medal podium is Edward and Charles (pole vault), Scheper (high jump) and Leonce (pentathlon).
