Fashion designer Taribba do Nascimento has taken her brand, Même Bête, to the boundaries of her imagination and beyond. The talented creator not only fabricated a section in the Fuzion Mas carnival band this year, she materialized an entire fashion show for her work.
In the month of May, Full Circle was finally brought to life. Art, dance and music were all tied together to create something absolutely different from the norm. The weeks of hard work from creative directors Richard Ambrose and Denise Lay wowed a full house at The Landings with their unique take on a fashion show.
Même Bête is predominantly a business of bags that make a statement. Taribba has her signature look of perfectly sculpted designs made with African print fabrics. One might not have expected much of an entire fashion show just for bags, but she definitely made it work. Her models were covered in white body suits from head to toe. Only the shape of their bodies and well made-up faces could be seen, but not enough to take attention away from those Même Bête bags.
Imagery was a main contributor to the overall outcome of the event. The bags were attached to golden hoops that represented Même Bête’s Full Circle and models strutted along the runway holding onto the hoops in different poses. “Bone-breaking” dancers added a thrilling element as they made their way down the catwalk contorting their bodies while showing off Même Bête designs.
The audience watched with utmost interest, careful not to look away for too long. And to make sure all senses were captivated for Taribba’s desired effect, music was given careful attention. Talented Yannick James rendered on the violin a classical-toned version of the popular Dennery segment’s Split In De Middle. This opening number initiated a standard for the rest of the show. Michael Robinson was also a guest performer and his charming vocals ended the show with something to savour.
No detail was left unattended: Peter & Company Distributors ensured tasty cocktails, and Full Circle goodie bags with SHE Caribbean Magazines awaited every guest at their seat.
To congratulate Taribba on a job well done, she was presented with a token from Peter & Company Distributors and everyone was invited to dance the rest of the night away in The Landings’ elegant lobby.
