The St Lucia Rugby Football Union in collaboration with the Micoud Youth and Sports Council, will be staging a grand Sports Day on Sunday at the Micoud Playing Field from 9am. The event will showcase the athletic talents of individuals and teams and culminates in an exhibition rugby match at 4pm.
Action will commence with a number of youth football games, where the energetic and skilful Micoud youths will demonstrate what they have learnt from the training sessions they have been attending recently. This will be followed by athletic events namely sprints and relays.
These events will be done on the basis of the seven football teams and other sporting groups in the area, who will do battle to determine the champion team and outstanding individuals. There will also be some events for the senior members of the society who will show their younger neighbours how it is done.
The icing on the cake will be the rugby match and showcase of the talents and newly acquired skills of the youngsters from Pierrot. They recently started playing rugby under the guidance of coach and mentor Ken Charles.
It will be the first time rugby will be played in the Micoud area and is testimony to the dedication and drive of the Micoud Youth and Sports Council under the presidency of Lester Justin and their counterparts the St Lucia Rugby Football Union.
The Sports Day will serve as a launching pad to develop the game of rugby in Micoud and a a means of fostering the development of sports and games in the area in general.
