On Tuesday members and parents of National Swim Team met with the Minister of Youth Development and Sports, Shawn A Edward; and Acting Permanent Secretary, Fortuna Belrose; to discuss the team’s preparations and expectations for the 2013 CARIFTA Swimming Championships set for Jamaica from March 29 to April 3.
The minister congratulated the eight member squad for their hard work and challenged them to be true ambassadors of their country in both deportment and sportsmanship.

Edward also spoke about plans for the construction a new swimming facility on the island in order to grow the sport and to ensure that more St Lucians develop a swimming culture not only for sport but to develop life skills.

Belrose reaffirmed the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports’ commitment to athletes and encouraged swimmers to always pursue excellence in all spheres of their lives. The swimmers intimated that they looked forward to medaling at the CARIFTA Championships and that the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games were high on their priority list, even more so as Saint Lucia would be the host country.
The eight member team along with their Manager Leslie Bishop and some parents, left St Lucia on Wednesday for Jamaica. The Government and people of Saint Lucia wish them all the best in their individual races.
