(Office of the Prime Minister)- The National Emergency Management Advisory Committee (NEMAC) and various stakeholders met on Friday 29th January 2021 to discuss Saint Lucia’s National Response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In attendance at the meeting was Prime Minister Honourable Allen Chastanet, Command Centre Chairman Hon. Dominic Fedee, Health and Wellness Minister Hon. Mary Isaac, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Sharon Belmar-George. Also joining the meeting virtually was Leader of the Opposition Hon. Philip J. Pierre and heads of various Government and national committees, private sector organizations, civil society and other relevant agencies.
The objective of the meeting was to receive an update from health officials, to assess the current protocols as it relates to the management of the COVID-19 pandemic in Saint Lucia and to engage in consultation with stakeholders.
The meeting was Chaired by the Cabinet Secretary Benjamin Emmanuel who explained that the consultative session met its objective in obtaining significant suggestions and recommendations to further strengthen protocols to reduce the rate of infection.
There will be further deliberations by the Cabinet of Ministers on the recommendations from the Command Centre and NEMAC/Stakeholders meeting following which the Prime Minister will update the nation prior to the end of current protocols on the way forward.
