NICE prepares staff for summer workshops

The National Initiative to Create Employment (NICE) is this year collaborating with the Ministries of Education and Youth and Sports to coordinate the first annual National Summer Program for primary and secondary students throughout the island.

Eighty-six principals’ assistants and sixty-four IT assistants, who are currently employed under the NICE Project at various infant and primary schools islandwide, will be among the facilitators and camp supervisors for these summer camps.

As of this week, in preparation for the staging of the two-week summer camps, the IT assistants are brushing up on their technical skills and the principals assistants are receiving productivity enhancement training in conflict resolution, effective communication and self-esteem, among other areas. At the end of the week long workshop, it is anticipated that the participants would have sharpened their interpersonal skills and will be better able to manage the groups to which they will be assigned throughout the duration of the camps.

Mary Skelly is the Education Coordinator of the NICE Project within the Ministry of Education. The camps will run daily from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. from July 29th to August 9th at eighteen centers and schools islandwide.
