This past weekend viral video recordings emerged from the Bordelais Correctional Facility (BCF) depicting inmates singing extemporaneously. In a more worrying video, however, an inmate was seen lying on the floor of his cell in obvious physical distress.

The Bordelais Correctional Facility, in the person of its Director, Mr. Hilary Herman, the facility confirms the man received medical attention, has stabilized and is recuperating. The Director also confirmed, the 27 positive inmates are in quarantine and that only one individual had been tansported to the hospital.

“Currently we have isolated inmates who have received positive results as well as those who are adhering to the two weeks in quarantine protocol. We’ve made some adjustments to accommodate the situation as we await more outcomes from the Ezra Long Laboratory.  We have some test results from the contact tracing that is pending and with the support of the Ministry of Health and the medical staff, in-house testing has been administered to help the process along. It is tough on our resources right now as can be imagined but   this is something we are attempting to handle as best we can; because if the virus is prevalent out there in the community, it increases the risk that someone is going to be brought in here with it.”

The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs continues to work closely with the management of the Bordelais Correctional Facility to contain the internal spread of the virus.

All in-person visits to the facility by the general public have been discontinued until further notice.
