The Saint Lucia Olympic Committee is pleased to announce that it has secured an Olympic Solidarity Scholarship for high jumper Darvin Edwards, for a period of eight months beginning January 1, 2012.
The scholarship is to the tune of US$ 8000.00 and will go towards assisting him with his every day needs.
In addition to the US $8000.00 which he will receive directly, the sum of US $5000.00 has also been set aside to assist him in getting to competitions leading up to the London Games.
Edwards who is currently based in London, England, has already attained the qualifying mark for the London Olympics and will remain there under the supervision of his coach Trevor Llewellyn.
Meanwhile, the Committee has also made available to the Saint Lucia Cycling Association an amount of EC $10,000.00 which will go towards assisting one of the Association’s cyclists to attend a training center in Cuba. The athlete who is expected to depart Saint Lucia shortly is Fidel Mangal.
This is the second time that the Olympic Committee has assisted Mangal with making the trip to the Cuban center.
As usual the Olympic Committee wishes the athletes every success in their endeavors.
