OMG was Oh my Gosh!

If last year’s rain-drenched first effort was anything to judge by, the latest installment of the OMG music festival was not the most highly anticipated event on the social calendar. Luckily for all in attendance, that could not have been further from the case. The weather gods were kind and the musical acts took full advantage of the favourable conditions to give the hundreds of fans who clamoured to Samaan’s Park the perfect start to 2015.

Canadian-based St. Lucian rapper Kayo was happy to be home and it showed in his delivery in tandem with counterpart Ricky Hinkson, who brought together an eclectic mix of performers to open the show.

Proving that the Brazilian martial art of capoeira is inherently cultural, the Capoeira 758 band made its debut. Using traditional instruments including the berimbau, pandeiro and atabaque, the ensemble put a local twist on Portuguese classics, even infusing a mini acrobatic demonstration much to the delight of the appreciative crowd.

Coming off an impressive outing at his carnival show U4ria, Teddyson John fans were expecting the best out of the dynamo and he did not disappoint. It is widely agreed that John set the right mood with his mix of high energy soca and soulful reggae offerings. Absolutely phenomenal.

After an interlude by the house DJ, the man of the hour emerged: Taurus Riley. The Jamaican reggae superstar took the crowd on a journey as he kept it coming with hit after hit from his catalogue leaving those in attendance fully sated.

We can’t wait for the third edition!
