Orion Wins Another Title!

Orion FC are a force to contend with when it comes to football in Gros Islet, following their second consecutive major title in Gros Islet League competitions.
On Sunday Orion emerged champions of the Gros Islet Promotional League, shutting out Seaview 2-0 in the finals played under the lights at the Gros Islet Playing Field.
Orion led 1-0 after first half and scored the insurance marker late in the second half. Goals for the winning side came from Benjamin “Satan” Gabriel and Tyson Paul.
Sunday’s victory is a very important one for Orion. Besides winning the title, they now move on to participate in the St Lucia Football Association (SLFA) Promotional Competition due to start in February.
President of the Orion Football Club and the Grand Dame of Gros Islet Football, Jennifer Gaston, was delighted with the victory knowing full well the importance of playing in the SLFA Competition.
“I am very, very happy we won tonight,” said Gaston. “We won the District League last year and the Promotional League is the one that determines who goes through to play at the national level. We were looking forward to that.”
Gaston explained that winning the Promotional League is an incentive for her players to continue in the sport, develop it and train because they are now finally going into the national level again to play.
Commenting on the final against Seaview Gaston said: “It was a tough game. Up until almost the end it
was 1-0. For us to have scored again that was fantastic. I felt really relieved.”
Orion have little time to savour the victory. This week they are back training in preparation for the SLFA Competition.
Prior to Sunday’s final, there was the Third Place Playoff between Caye Mange and Coco Pere. Despite the score it was a very entertaining encounter with Caye Mange coming out on top 4-1.
