Through “Libraries’ Fundraising”’Micoud and Choiseul Library Groups have donated $4,488 to the St. Lucia Cancer Society. This money was raised at the community level during the libraries’ activities in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month during 2015.
Micoud Library head Adria George handed over the funds to the St. Lucia Cancer Society represented by Lista Louis and Dr. David Bristol. The activities for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October 2015 included a community Health Fair held in Choiseul Village on October 2, in partnership with St. Jude’s Hospital, with presentations and free examinations to serve the residents.
A “Wear It Pink” campaign took place in schools in Micoud and Choiseul. A cocktail soiree – “Drink It Pink” – with a silent auction proved to be a fun and fruitful source of donations: over $2,000 was raised in the silent auction with a further $2,000 in ticket sales. Donors for the events included First Caribbean Bank, Uptown Liquor Store, Riverbank Bar, Dixie Mart in Micoud, and Coalpot Restaurant.
Auction donors included Endless Summer Tours, The Reef Kite & Surf, Hotel Chez Marie Alish/Bernardin Louis, Rainforest Adventures, ANSCAFE, St. Lucia Water Park, Hotwire Ziplining, Morne Coubaril Plantation, La Haut Resort, Island Mix Art Emporium/Nadia Jabour, Bay Gardens Inn, Coconut Bay Resort, Caribbean Pirates Restaurant/Chef Robby, and LeShom Designs.
