(Peter and Company Distribution Limited)- In keeping with their ongoing commitment to support the academic advancement and development of their employees’ children, Peter & Company Distribution (PCD) hosted their 2020 scholarship award ceremony virtually, on October 23rd 2020 via the Microsoft Teams meeting platform to present the twenty-three (23) deserving young recipients with their bursaries and scholarships.
This recognition for academic excellence is the cornerstone of the Ricardo Leonard Memorial Scholarship Awards which are disbursed annually to students who meet and exceed preestablished criteria at every educational level; primary, secondary and tertiary. Over twenty-six thousand dollars (ECX$26,000) were awarded to successful students of the Common Entrance Exams, as well as those who maintained the required grade-point average during the academic year at secondary school and students who gained acceptance to their course of study at Sir Arthur Lewis Community College.
In a feature address to the 18 previous recipients, their parents, guardians and members of the PCD Team, Ms. Michele Kalloo, CEO, welcomed 5 new awardees to the program; saluting them all for their academic achievements. Noting that the awards are usually presented annually in September to coincide with the start of the academic year; this year, due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, a different, digital route had to be employed to deliver the awards.
Ms. Kalloo expressed PCD’s tremendous sense of pride and joy at being able to host the Scholarship Awards ceremony leveraging the technology of the Microsoft Teams platform to ensure that “for yet another year we can keep our promise to the people who matter the most to our business; bringing
everyone together virtually to celebrate each other’s stellar academic accomplishments”.
She added that PCD was heartened to receive applications from many areas of the business including retail, sales and marketing, merchandising, finance and maintenance. This is a clear indication that the 23 students who made the grade to be selected for scholarship awards were especially resilient in the face of Corona Virus which continues to be a defining moment in history for all of us. This year’s recipients are an inspiration through their perseverance by not allowing this pandemic to dictate what they could or could not achieve.
