Opposition leader Philip J. Pierre is confident that the Saint Lucia Labour Party will win the next general election. During his presentation at Tuesday’s sitting of the House of Assembly, Pierre brought up his party’s 2016 general election loss. “We’re not ashamed of saying that we lost the election, we’re not ashamed. And we will not do anything like ya’ll will do, to win the election. We lost the election free and fair… we lost and we are in opposition.
“But the plans that ya’ll have to ensure that ya’ll win the elections, the people of Saint Lucia will abort them. The plans that ya’ll have, by whatever means necessary to win the elections, the people of Saint Lucia will abort them.” Pierre, the political leader of the Saint Lucia Labour Party, stated that his party wants to win by “discussion, argument, fair play and a fair electoral process.”
“That’s what we want to win by,” he said. “Of course we want to win and the people will make us win.”
So far the SLP has announced three candidates for the next election. They are Senator Joachim Henry for Castries South East, Emma Hippolyte for Soufriere and Wayne Girard for Anse La Raye/Canaries. The United Workers Party has not announced any new candidates to date.
