Police Issue Statement on Shooting of Eric Thomas in Laborie

RSPLF – On Saturday, February 11, 2023, about 1:00 a.m., a joint team of Officers attached to the Laborie Police Station, Special Services Unit and Scenes of Crime Office were dispatched to the Laborie Highway, to respond to a report of a shooting.

Off-duty officers acting on information received regarding a male unlawfully in possession of a firearm within an establishment approached the accused, who proceeded to assault an officer with the firearm, causing injury to his head. Other officers present intervened, attempting to disarm him. He was pursued outside the establishment where he discharged rounds of ammunition in the direction of officers.

During the incident, the male sustained fatal injuries; he has now been formally identified as Eric Thomas, a twenty-two (22) year-old resident of Eucalyptus Avenue, Laborie. Three (3) other males were also injured during the shooting.

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force condemns any action which threatens the life of any Police Officer and or members of the public. All interventions necessary to persevere life and property, within the ambit of the law, will be supported. Psychological support and other required aid are being offered at this time to involved officers.
