It is passing strange that the police have yet to release any information about a shooting at a local nightclub that occurred in the early hours of Thursday. The STAR has confirmed that one man is left nursing gunshot wounds at Tapion Hospital and another was taken in for questioning in relation to the incident.
According to eyewitness reports, a man walked up to another man before having a dispute. Witnesses say they heard a loud bang, only to notice one of the men falling to the floor
soon after. The gunshot victim was later taken to the Tapion Hospital and has been identified as Winsbert Alexander. He has refused to offer a comment surrounding the incident.
The management of Spinners Night Club has since released a statement condemning the shooting incident and says while one man did get shot at the club there were no security breaches. Management further extended sympathy to Winsbert Alexander and his family and says they will do whatever is necessary and within their means to ensure that Alexander has a complete and speedy recovery. In the statement, read on RCI news, apologies were extended to the patrons of the event. In the joint statement owners of the Spinners Night Club and Sound City International state they have enjoyed an impeccable safety record at all events as well as the reputation of having one of the most secured and respectable venues on the island.
The owners also stated that secure measures were taken recently to ensure that all patrons are safe and that will continue at every event. The statement further says that a licensed firearm was discharged by its owner who provided all necessary documents upon entry. The statement described the incident as an irresponsible act and both Spinners Night Club and Sound City International have publicly condemned the shooting.
In matters pertaining to similar incidents, it is customary for the police to release a press statement officially providing details but up until press time, we received no such statements except that one man is currently assisting police with investigations.
