[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he sports fraternity is again morning the loss, this time of a promising young cricketer who died in a vehicular accident that occurred at La Retraite, Monchy, Gros Islet Sunday morning at about 2:00 am.

Nick Elibox, 19, from Bexon was driving when he lost control of his Suzuki Vitara, which went off the road and overturned. Elibox died after sustained severe head injuries. Four other occupants in the vehicle sustained minor injuries.

Having lost one of their own, the St Lucia National Cricket Association (SLNCA) could not believe what happened and expressed their sadness. Following is a press release from the SLNCA: It is with a feeling of shock and disbelief that we woke to the news of the passing of young Nick Elibox this morning.

This young outstanding cricketer played for Central Castries and before that Castries Comprehensive. In his last year he served as captain of the Central Castries Under 19 cricket team, which went on to share the Under 19 championship with Choiseul in 2017. Nick also represented St Lucia at the Under 15 and Under 19 level. He was also selected to represent Windwards at the Under 15 and Under 17 ranks.

Nick was a hard hitting, fearless and confident batsman and he brought this same attitude to his life and this is what makes the loss more profound.

On behalf of the executive and board of management of the SLNCA we would like to extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends in Marc, the members of the St Lucia Under 19 team, Central Castries Cricket Association and to all cricketers who knew or played with Nick.

We hope that your fond memories of Nick will carry you through this especially sad period and that we all can find the strength to carry on. Rest in Peace Nick.
