On Sunday, July 12 Prime Minister Allen Chastanet will unveil his administration’s “Economic Recovery and Resilience Plan” for the country. In a statement on his Facebook page today, Chastanet indicated that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a devastating effect, and has placed many Saint Lucians on the breadline. This plan, the prime minister said, will map out the government’s structured and long term response to the impact of the pandemic.
The prime minister stated:
The current COVID-19 pandemic has had a devastating effect and we have seen the loss of household income and job security which has now thrown many Saint Lucians on the breadline. We have tried to address some of these issues with immediate measures such as food packages and income support. The overall recovery of our country however needs a more structured approach.
On Sunday July 12th at 8:00 PM the Government of Saint Lucia will present the Economic Recovery and Resilience Plan for Saint Lucia. This will map out our Government’s structured and long term response to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The plan was prepared by the Ministry of Finance with recommendations from the multi-sectoral Economic Recovery Multi-Sectoral Committee, comprising representatives from the private sector, trade unions, employers and the Opposition. The Committee and its sub-committees met on numerous occasions, and after extensive discussions, where submissions were received from a wide cross-section of the public, an Economic Recovery and Resilience Plan, consisting of three economic recovery strategies and three resilience strategies were developed.
Please join us on Sunday as we present this Economic Recovery and Resilience Plan in greater detail as we continue to try to curtail the impact, protect businesses, drive economic activity, protect the poor, marginalized and most vulnerable segments of the Saint Lucian population, accelerate reforms, strengthen the Health System and continue to build a more resilient Saint Lucia.
This plan will work if we join together, put our country first and continue to be there for each other.
