No longer will the police be labeled as reactive says top cop Vernon Francois. The Acting Chief was speaking in the wake of carnival activities climaxing in July. He warned unsavory elements who may have mal intent during carnival celebrations or any event leading up to Carnival Monday and Tuesday need to think twice because there will be heavy police presence throughout.
Francois says the police have outlined a strategy to maintain law and order. Additionally, the Central Intelligence Unit has also put together a pamphlet (pictured right) with useful security tips including information on offenses against a person and safety tips for the carnival season.
No one who crosses the line this carnival season will be spared. He explained that carnival provides the forum for revelers to let loose. And as such, law enforcement will not tolerate civil disobedience and behaviour that is not compliant with the laws of the country.
The Acting Commissioner advises that members of the public and revelers get a copy of the carnival security pamphlet, after all, the police has its role to play in ensuring an incident free carnival but the public has to work with officials by being vigilant and informed.
