Declaring that all hands must be on deck for the upcoming general election, Richard Frederick on Sunday night encouraged the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) to use him. The former government minister was one of the many speakers at the SLP’s Castries Market Steps meeting. Prior to assembling at the market, hundreds of supporters marched from the Vigie Playing Field to the city.
The former government minister began his address by stating that this was the first time in his 14-year political career, that he was speaking on the Market Steps. “But it will not best the last!” he declared. “Until I see we get rid of Chastanet, and Philip J. Pierre is the next prime minister, I will not rest… We need more than a national effort to derail Chastanet! All hands must be on deck and my hands are here for you Labour Party, use them!”
He continued: “You know, it is really, really something else that our ancestors fought for the right to vote and some of us are stupid enough to use that right to give it to a descendant of the colonial masters to treat us the same way that those slave owners were treating us. That has to change!”
After leading the crowd in ‘ring the bell’ chants, the Allen Chastanet critic pleaded with SLP supporters to get their ID cards ready. “Whilst ya’ll are here supporting the Labour Party , my flambeau people over there, I know their ID cards ready. I want you guys to ensure that your piece of ID is ready because Chastanet, and that law he has passed, he believes it will give him an advantage over the SLP to call elections anytime and to catch the Labour Party with their pants down,” said Frederick. “So folks you know, we have a fight on our hands, let us do battle. The battle is not us against us, it is us against Chastanet and he must go by any means necessary!”
To date, the SLP has not endorsed a candidate for Castries Central— Frederick’s former constituency. At a press conference last week, Pierre was asked whether Frederick had applied to become a member of the party. He replied: “No.” However, “The SLP has a large umbrella. We accept and we consider anyone who is opposed to what’s happening now, but we have our processes and we have our procedures,” Pierre said.
Meanwhile, Stanley Felix is among those vying to become the party’s candidate for the constituency:https://stluciastar.com/eyeing-coveted-castries-central-seat-stanley-felix-declares-im-ready-to-fight-again-richard-frederick-not-impressed/
