In the week before Christmas, the Sagicor team completed their annual Christmas Social Giving Initiative, by presenting Care Packages to Rise St Lucia and the New Beginnings Transit Home.

This year Sagicor Life (Eastern Caribbean Inc) SLECI, distributed a record 80 packages with 36 given to Rise St Lucia, 10 to New Beginnings Transit Home and the remaining 34 were provided to staff members who distributed the packages to persons and families in need in their communities.

Eon Phillips, Assistant Vice President, EC Insurance Operations and Branch Manager and Principal Representative for SLECI’s St Lucia operations provided details about the initiative, “This initiative, is one that is managed and overseen by the dedicated team at Sagicor and has been slowly growing since we started some years ago. It’s a collective effort in that our team members identify persons in needs in their community and donate items and then Sagicor will match and provide support based on the level of need. This year, because of the continuing impact of covid-19 we decided to include Rise St Lucia, whom we worked with earlier this year and New Beginnings Transit Home.  Preparation for the handover began in October when baskets were placed throughout the office which staff members filled daily with non-perishable food items and toiletries. In December, team members worked together to organize and wrap the 80 care packages. I want to give special recognition to the team at Sagicor for a job well done.”

Venus Cherry, Director for Rise St Lucia was on hand at Sagicor’s office to collect the packages earmarked for his organisation, which is dedicated to the development of disadvantaged youth. He said, “I’m really happy to be back at Sagicor for the second time this year, this time to receive a donation of Christmas Cheer. This kind of support is really needed right now given how the pandemic has led to rising prices for so many items that are needed by individuals and families. At a time when many companies have adjusted their social giving downward, we really appreciate that Sagicor has recognized the need and reached out to us to help. There are families all around St Lucia who will benefit from these efforts. Sagicor continues to set a positive example of an organisation which has boldly stepped up and demonstrated their support for our communities and we thank them deeply for this.”

Expressing similar sentiments was Cleathia Antoine, Executive Officer of the New Beginnings Transit Home which is a is residential place of safety for children between the ages of 2-16 years who are victims of child abuse, severe neglect and who need care and protection on a short term basis while plans are put in place for their care. She said, “On behalf of the Management, Staff and especially the children of New Beginnings Transit Home we would like to thank Sagicor for giving us these hampers for Christmas. It will go a long way towards helping us to provide for our children. Thank you so much.”
