Yadhu Urs, 18, is an outstanding golfer who is currently on a sports scholarship at The Wheeling University in West Virginia, competing in Division II.

Nicolas Beaubrun, 28, who has rekindled his passion for the game hopes to repeat his past performances as a junior champion at The Trinidad Open in 2006.

The pair aim to become the first St. Lucians to make the cut after 36 holes, and earn the right to play on the weekend. The duo will be accompanied by appointed Manager Naveen Urs.

Founded by the Masters Tournament, The R&A and the USGA, the LAAC was established to further develop amateur golf in South America, Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean.

The LAAC champion will receive an invitation to the 2022 Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club and an exemption into The 150th Open at St Andrews.

Other notable St. Lucians golfers who have attended are Terry Verdant, Romanus Inglis, Eugene Edwin, Victor Charles, Corey Devaux, Ben Gillmor, Cliff Alcide and Canice Louis.

The public can follow live updates on The St. Lucia Golf Association’s Instagram and Facebook pages during the days of play. While a live stream of the championships will be available on laacgolf.com.

Also, The SLGA would like to thank Cabot for sponsoring the uniforms.  And lastly, thanks must be given to Sandals Golf and Country Club, the players’ home course.

  1. My name is Kenmore Bynoe and I am a freelance photo/journalist who mainly covers sports for the Nation Newspaper in Barbados.

It is possible that I shall be covering the OECS Netball Series in Dominica which will involve a team from Barbados and your country. Would your publication be keen on securing action photos from that tournament?
