“This new programme is a welcome addition to our existing curriculum. It broadens the opportunity offered to our students, by opening mobility possibilities in the French West Indies” says Principal of the SALCC, Dr. Keith Nurse.
The overall goal of the “French Gateways to Global Careers” Programme is to improve the mobility and economic development of Saint Lucian students and young entrepreneurs through cooperation with French overseas territories. It was co-created with Unite Caribbean, a regional consulting firm aiming to promote the sustainable development of the Caribbean through regional cooperation.
Unite Caribbean has played a major role in the programme design and is instrumental in linking the education programme with companies in Saint Lucia, Guadeloupe and Martinique. Thomas Chollet, Unite Caribbean’s CEO, declares “Unite Caribbean is uniquely placed to bridge the educational and the private sector between OECS countries and the FWI. We are convinced this new programme will enhance cooperation within the Caribbean region.”
An important part of the programme will be professional training in French, delivered jointly with the Alliance Française in Saint Lucia. Unite Caribbean is also active in recruiting new private sector partners for the programme, who will be invited to deliver training sessions and provide internship opportunities for the enrolled students.
The “French Gateway to Global Careers” programme is the result of the project FORPRO, funded by the French cooperation through the French Embassy for the OECS countries based in Saint Lucia. The project aims to improve professional integration and increase exchanges between French and Saint Lucian vocational and higher education institutions. For Christel Outreman, French cooperation manager at the French Embassy in Saint Lucia “This project perfectly aligns with the overall objectives of French cooperation. We are proud to support enhanced dialogue between public and private institutions in Saint Lucia and France.”
