Sandals Team Members Beautify Rat Island

In keeping with the 2014 observance of World Tourism Day and International Coastal Cleanup Day the Sandals Foundation executed a cleanup and beautification initiative on Rat Island last Wednesday September 17th.

Sandals Foundation volunteers from Sandals Regency La Toc Golf Resort and Spa and Sandals Halcyon Beach Resort partnered with personnel of the National Trust and the Rat Island Foundation to undertake the project.

Environmental Health and Safety Manager for Sandals Regency La Toc Melanie Pamphile speaking on behalf of the Sandals Foundation said the initiative comes in keeping with Sandals continued commitment to proper environmental practices and partnerships both locally and throughout the Caribbean.

“This project is extremely important to us from both a tourism and environmental perspective. Our guests at Sandals Halcyon kayak to Rat Island to enjoy its natural beauty and it is important that the habitat is preserved for tourists and locals alike that visit,” Pamphile noted.

Over 20 volunteers were part of the project, which also included underwater reef cleaning.
