[dropcap]A[/dropcap]s our great nation of St Lucia gears up to celebrate its 38th year of Independence, persons, clubs, organizations and companies alike actively adorn offices, buildings, streets, vehicles, and themselves with the colors and symbols of national pride. This year’s theme “I am St Lucia” underlines the unity of all citizens from all backgrounds, creeds, and across the ends of the earth.
In support of Independence celebrations and unity among the country’s citizens, St Lucia Amateur Swimming Association (SLASA) announces the “Independence Challenge Swim Meet” to be held on Sunday 26th February starting at 9:30 AM. The venue, Rodney Heights Aquatic Centre, is promised to come alive with national pride and spirit as the 7 local swim clubs unite in sportsmanly competition.
The public is invited to come out and support the nation’s swimmers as unification among swimmers and clubs exemplifies “I am St Lucia” through the power of sports. In the words of the great Nelson Mandela “Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. It speaks to youth in a language they understand. Sport can create hope where once there was only despair.”
