The Super Eight lineup is now complete in the St Lucia Football Association’s (SLFA’s) Super league Inter-district Football Competition, after the final two preliminary matches in the Northern Zone were played last evening at the Gros Islet playing Field. In the first match of a double header, Marchand confirmed their spot in the Super Eight stage of the competition with a four goals to two win over La Clery. Marchand were led to victory by goals from prolific striker Lincoln Phillip in the 19th and 43rd minutes as well as goals from Richard Smith in the 59th and Marciano Prince in the 80th minute. La Clery’s goals came from Jonathan Allain in the 26th minute and from Shervon James from the penalty spot in the 66th minute. In the second match of the double header, home team Gros Islet booked their place in the Super Eight with a one goal to nil win over Central Castries. A 56th minute strike from Eden “Eve” Charles, was enough to give them victory and a place in the super eight. At the end of the preliminaries of the Northern Zone, Marchand finished on 13points, Gros Islet on 12 points, Central Castries on nine points, South Castries on seven points, La Clery on three points and Babonneau on zero points. So the qualifiers for the Super Eight stage of the competition are Marchand and Gros Islet from the Northern Zone, Canaries and Soufriere from the Western Zone, Desruisseaux and Vieux Fort South from the Southern Zone and Micoud and Mabouya Valley from the Eastern Zone. The Super Eight stage of the competition will be played at the Mindoo Phillip Park September 29 and September 30, October 1, October 7, October 8, October 13, October 14, October 20, and October 21.
