Advertised under the tag line “Come enjoy the time, party under the Pitons”, Soufriere Creole Jazz and Arts Festival 2016 will come alive with a one-day arts and cultural day/night fiesta on the Soufriere Waterfront on Saturday April 30, followed by its signature musical expose at the Soufriere mini-stadium on Sunday May 1. This year’s festival promises to deliver great music and an authentic Saint Lucian arts and cultural experience with great entertainers, uniquely Soufriere craft, exquisite cuisine, and great steel pan expositions.
In response to demands that the solely musical event evolve from a one-day event into an experience which guarantees that there is never a dull moment, an arts and cultural element was added. This component of the festival will be hosted in collaboration with the Cultural Development Foundation and will showcase local craft, a community art collage, and live musical performances from steel pan groups from the south of the island and one Soufriere musical band.
Hundreds of Saint Lucians are expected to descend on the scenic community to enjoy its cultural heritage, celebrate the artistic expression, buy the works of its resident artisans, and savour Creole culinary delights.
On Sunday May 1 thousands of Saint Lucians and foreigners are expected to unwind in the idyllic ambience of this tranquil town to the various international and Caribbean rhythms which guarantee to take them to an unforgettable melodious escape. With a track record of delivering world-acclaimed headliners, outstanding local bands and superb individual talent, the musical component has become well-known for its great and diverse selection of music. This year is no exception as the audience will be treated to an eclectic mix to include R&B, pop, rap, lovers rock, cadence, zouk, soca and jazz. Three-time Grammy Award winner Wyclef Jean, and legendary international reggae artist Maxi Priest will headline the event while other notable acts such as Rob ‘Zi’ Taylor, EvaLucian and Creole King of St. Lucia, Gregory Sinaise, will feature.
Soufriere Creole Jazz and Arts Festival is designed to expand the world-acclaimed Saint Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival by bringing it to the south-western corridor of Saint Lucia; to stimulate short-term economic activity; to provide a platform for successful national artists; to expose local musical and artistic talent; to catalyse the preservation of cultural heritage; to foster social cohesion and to promote Soufriere as a tourism destination.
