Today, Monday, September 9, marks a decade since an early morning fire destroyed the St. Jude Hospital in Vieux Fort. Ten years, three government administrations, and many promises later, the redevelopment of the hospital remains incomplete.
The latest word by this government is that the hospital will be completed by 2020, with main contractor Overseas Engineering Construction Company (OECC) leading the charge.
At a sod-turning ceremony on 17 July 2019, Prime Minister Allen Chastanet praised the doctors, nurses and staff for their patience during the very difficult ten years, and promised “we are now seeing the light at the end of the tunnel”.
