The St. Lucia Zouks squad for the upcoming Caribbean Premier League (CPL) season has been finalized following today’s Player Draft. The 2020 tournament is scheduled to take place from August 18 to September 10, and the Zouks will look to improve on their 3-6 record from last year. The team placed 5th at the end of the regular season, failing to advance to the playoffs.

The 2020 squad includes: Daren Sammy, Kimani Melius, Rilee Rossouw, Mohammad Nabi, Colin Ingram, Andre Fletcher, Kesrick Williams, Anrich Nortje, Chemar Holder, Obed Mccoy, Rahkeem Cornwall, Mark Deyal, Noor Ahmad, Leniko Boucher, Kavem Hodge, Javelle Glen and Saad Bin Zafar.

Notably absent is Jamaica’s Chris Gayle who was signed by the Zouks in April. In June, the team announced that he would not be suiting up this season due to “personal reasons.”

“I’m excited to lead those guys out there in the middle,” said captain Daren Sammy, following today’s draft. Sammy said it is very difficult to replace somebody like Chris Gayle but his absence gives another player an opportunity to step up to the plate. He wished Gayle all the best and said that he supports and respects his decision to sit out for personal reasons. “We all know in this sport how time spent away from family could never be regained. And also during this COVID-19, I understand that Chris has not seen his family because of the travel restrictions for a while. We will represent you well this season. This is the St Lucia Zouks and we are excited about this years CPL,” said Sammy.
