According to sources in Martinique, a 24-year-old Saint Lucian male is in police custody in connection with the murder of a nearly 80-year-old Martiquan for whom he had worked several years. The accused appeared before a judge on July 17.
Reports in the Martinique press claim the young assailant stabbed his victim several times, after he was identified despite his hoodie. Another man is also helping the police in their inquiries.
Last week Shazzi Shalon, who is attached to Saint Lucia’s consulate in Martinique,
appeared on more than one local news medium in relation to the case but seemed to concentrate mainly on the possible impact on Saint Lucians living in Martinique or applying for visitor’s visas.
For several years now the French authorities have complained about the level of crime committed by Saint Lucians resident or visiting Martinique.
