[dropcap]S[/dropcap]tudents at the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College were the recipients of much-needed Financial Literacy and Career Guidance during the annual Career Fair at the College’s premises on The Morne, Castries.
The activity, which comes ahead of Youth Month, is part of an all-encompassing series of school tours by Axcel Finance aimed at exposing students to the importance of managing their money, exercising wise financial planning for life and preparing for the “world of work”.
The leading Micro-Finance Institution strongly believes that financial management and planning your career are essential at the stage of youth, both for personal and national development. Axcel Finance says the response from students and lecturers was overwhelming, as both groups showed a positive interest in the information presented.
“Many students who leave Sir Arthur Lewis Community College take their education, enthusiasm and talent immediately into the workplace, either as a gap before university or to build a career for life. Unfortunately, not enough is available in terms of getting them ready for this huge step. This is why Axcel Finance has, as a major pillar of its community reinvestment, Money Management and Career Planning,” expressed Axcel’s Business Development Officer, Mervin Agiste.
Agiste noted that the students showed great enthusiasm in the idea of owning their own business and how Axcel could help facilitate this through its Micro-Finance Services. They also inquired about different job opportunities in the financial industry and at Axcel in particular.
“There was an outpour of questions from both students and teachers; we are happy to share knowledge on what we do best at Axcel Finance. The curiosity and participation from students were encouraging. This is a very positive sign that with the necessary guidance and support, these young people would build the kind of future that would reap rich rewards for the country,” added Agiste.
As part of their career guidance exercise, students had to present their resumes and participated in mock job interviews.
