Soufriere who placed third in the preliminary round of the 2013 Independence Netball Classic, won their Division One semi-final against Avengers who finished second in the preliminary round with a score of 51-45 Monday evening at the Vigie Multi-Purpose Sports Complex.
The score was deadlocked 13-3 after the first quarter and 25-25 at the half. Soufriere went ahead 38-37 at the end of third quarter and then held on for a 51-45 and advanced to Thursday’s final.
For Soufriere, goal shoot Jahvia Paul had the hot hand scoring 35 goals from 47 attempts. Her teammate goal attack Ianna Hippolyte, chipped in with 16 goals from 22 attempts.
Goal shoot Merlessa Alfred sizzled for Avengers netting 33 goals from 41 attempts, with teammate Lindel Forde connecting on 12 goals from 19 attempts.
In another Division One semi-final which was played on Tuesday, Elite Strikers who placed first in the preliminary round, went up against YOLO Heats who finished fourth.
Today (Wednesday) the third and fourth place playoffs in Division One and Two will be played. From 5:30 pm 1987 All Stars take on Avengers in a Division Two match up, while at 7 pm Avengers go up against the loser of the Elite Strikers – YOLO Heats match.
The finals of the 2013 Independence Netball Classic in Division One and Two will be played on Thursday. At 5:30 pm in a Division Two clash Shamrock A go up against Dynamic Fresh Ones. At 7 pm, Soufriere faces the winner of the Elite Strikers – YOLO Heats encounter.
