Super Moto A Spectacular Event

Wow!!! That was just one of the many phrases and expressions echoed by the many fans present at the Beausejour Promenade on National Day, for super moto racing at is best. The stage was set, the atmosphere among the riders was tense but the fans were not disappointed. The day started with the riders being sorted out in the various classes notably ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’. This was done by qualifying times. Of the 16 riders nine made it in the ‘A’ class, namely, Carlan Michel, Bertrum Simon, Sherwin Marshall, Gary Simon, Wayne Quintyne, Davidson Belizaire, Brian Leonce, Terroll Compton and Shaquille Jn Marie. ‘B’ class qualifiers were, Ike Blanchard, Clifford Gustave, Al Louis-Fernand, Dexter Felix, Olson Francois and Ron Squires.

The first and only female supermoto rider Royceline Terrance, accompanied by 11 year old Ron Squires and 14 year old Shaquille Jn Marie made up the ‘B’ class. The ‘A’ class was dominated by Michel, St Lucia’s first motocross rider to be racing in the USA and doing very well at that, capturing a number of winnings. In second place was the clubs’ longest active and most experience rider, the Veteran, Wayne Quintyne. Third place went to Brian Leonce, riding bike number 20. In the ‘B’ class, Olson Francois riding bike number 10 captured the first place position in all three motos. Second place went to Al Louis-Fernand riding bike #100.

The third place finisher was Clifford Gustave (aka Rusty Ranks). The ‘C’ class was a three lap event, with Terrance ending up being victorious, followed by Jn Marie and Squires. Poor lighting due a power outage led to some quick thinking and assistance by vehicle owners who saved the day by shining their headlights on the course giving the bikers the opportunity to display their amazing skills.

Riding the plank appeared to be the most challenging. It required a great deal of balance and skill which proved a bit much for most riders. Judging from the interest and crowd response, the 2013 motocross season is something to look forward to.

The executive and members of the St Lucia Moto X Club thanked everyone who participated, supported and assisted in any way in making the National Day Super Moto a success. Sports St Lucia Inc, M&C General Insurance, Renwick and Company, the Media, CIE, CJ Touring, Come to Me Tyre Service and Just Tires received special mention for their invaluable assistance. Judging from reviews and feedback from this event officials predict 2013 will be a great season for super moto and motocross.
