THE WAVE GIVES BACK

The Wave Radio Station (94.5 & 93.7FM) has a key interest in the development and elevation of Saint Lucian communities, primarily underdeveloped and poverty stricken regions of the island. Since Christmas resonates with people as a time for giving, for family and for good cheer, the station decided to focus on the Christmas season. In keeping with its Corporate Social Responsibility mandate, the station embarked on its annual Toy and Food Drive, now into its 7th year, in a collaborative effort with the its sister station wVent (93.5 & 94.7FM).

Leading up to the donation day of the drive, the stations promoted their theme for the drive: #OneItemManySmiles and appealed to the public that by donating just one single item, collectively each item would fill a hamper and result in the happiness and smiles of all the less fortunate families who were assisted. Donations were collected outside the various Super J IGA supermarkets and at their head office in Rodney Bay.

Coordinator of the drive Philgrim Lousiy said, “It is truly amazing that, given the tough economic time and financial hardship that everyone is presently facing in one way or another, so many Saint Lucians had the compassion in some form or fashion to donate willingly, from grocery items to clothing. Without their contributions this drive would not have happened and so many families would have not been able to receive this blessing.”

On Sunday 20th December the team visited over ten communities including Anse La Raye, Canaries, Soufriere, Choiseul, Laborie, Vieux Fort, Micoud, Dennery, Bexon, and Babonneau. Some of the recipients included the Soufriere fire victims, orphaned children, the elderly and single parents. In the end over 150 families of various sizes received food hampers, clothing, toys compliments Digicel and Peppers, and Footwear compliments Shoe Rehab.

The Wave (94.5 & 93.7FM) would like to sincerely thank all the public and private sector businesses and the wider Saint Lucian population for their considerable support and donations which all played a part in making this venture a success.
