Two recent fires in Saint Lucia have destroyed the homes of six individuals. The Saint Lucia Fire Service said that the Castries Fire Station received a call on May 16 at about 2:37 am, informing them of a house fire at La Clery. A wooden dwelling structure —home to three individuals and measuring 29×19 ft — was completely destroyed.
The Fire Service says that the water supply in the area posed an issue in firefighting efforts initially, but personnel were able to successfully contain and extinguish the fire. “All individuals were accounted for and no one was reported injured,” the Fire Service stated. Another unoccupied dwelling structure sustained significant damage.
The fire in La Clery came days after three individuals lost their home in Ciceron, Castries. On May 14, firefighters from the Castries Fire Station responded to a call at Ciceron, where a dwelling structure was fully engulfed in flames. The wooden structure — which measured 20×16 ft and housed three occupants— was completely destroyed. No one was reported injured in this incident and the fire was extinguished with no damage to other properties.
