Two Days Of Mas Ends Here

Carnival officials and the police are reporting a relatively incident free carnival here in Saint Lucia. Saint Lucia carnival came to an end on Tuesday following the two days of the parade of the bands. Seven mas bands paraded through the streets of Castries on Carnival Monday July 21 and Tuesday July 22 from their starting point at Choc. The event ended yesterday at 7 PM.
Later today (Wednesday) July 23, the CPMA main organizers of carnival will announce the winners of the various components including band of the year and individual of the year 2014.
This year’s carnival product was off to a very slow start early on in the season, but over this past weekend, persons turned out in large numbers to support the various activities. The weekend started off with Panorama on Friday night which was won by Pantime and later that night, the Wave’s Sexy In Black fete featuring Bunji and Faye Anne and a local cast was the main attraction. On Saturday evening the calypso finals was held at the Beausejour grounds and was won by Walleigh. Sunday evening it was the turn of the Power and Groovy Soca finals. Ezra, a newcomer is the power soca champ while Arthur of Evalucian band won the groovy soca monarch. That same evening a number of bands also held various fetes leading into J’ouvert.
J’ouvert morning started the final days of carnival here on Monday morning from 4 am.
