Two Educational Institutions Receive Donated Supplies Courtesy of the Sandals Foundation

October 3, 2014 – The Lady Gordon Opportunity Centre and the Balata Government School are the latest to benefit from the generosity of Sandals’ guests – utilising the Sandals Foundation – with the donation of an assortment of reading books, stationary and school supplies.

Lady Gordon – commonly referred to as the Saint Lucia School for the Deaf located in Cicerone received a donation of items last Friday sent specifically for the students per their own wish list.

Newlyweds Matt and Ashley Opliger visited the school while on Honeymoon in June, fell in love with the children and cause, and vowed to continue to support the institution through awareness and fundraising activities in the United States and in partnership with the Sandals Foundation.

Mrs. Linda Preville, Principal of the Lady Gordon Opportunity Centre, said the school was honored to receive this much needed donation which included crucial braille teaching and sign language aids for the visual and hearing impaired.

The Balata Government School also benefitted from a Sandals Foundation donation through the Pack For A Purpose programme where guests are able to give back to local schools by providing much needed school supplies, footballs and other items during their trips to Sandals.

This school collected more than 50 pounds of educational material donated by returning guests Sue and Larry Krause, veteran educators from Kent in the United Kingdom.

The Krauses have been committed to making a difference in local schools as this was their fourth donation through the Sandals Foundation. For more information on the Sandals Foundation and Pack For A Purpose, please visit www.SandalsFoundation.org and www.PackForAPurpose.org
