Two former champions VSADC and defending champions Vieux Fort South will contest the finals of the 2013 Veterans Football Tournament. Both teams booked their spots in the finals with one nil wins over their semi final opponents Sunday evening at the Beausejour Cricket Ground (BCG).

In the first semi final a strike five minutes into the encounter by Felix “Ullyses” Mark, gave VSADC a one goal to nil win over Laborie and a spot in the finals.

In the second semi final the defending champions Vieux Fort South got a hard fought one goal to nil win over Anse La Raye. The winner for the defending champions came from the boots of Jean “Jim” Joseph from the penalty spot in the 61st minute.

The final to be played Sunday December 1 at the BCG between VSADC and Vieux Fort South, will be the second time these two teams have met in a national veterans football final. A couple of years ago when the SLFA through Hudson B Kelly and John Seco Jn Jacques organized a national veterans competition, Vieux Fort South won over VSADC at the Phillip Marcellin Grounds in the final-the Vieux Fort South winner, a controversial strike by former national midfielder Nicholas “Zico” Marcellin past former national goal keeper Austin Prospere.

Marcellin is still in the present Vieux Fort South team for this year’s veterans final. There is still debate today as to whether Marcellin’s strike had indeed crossed the line past the VSADC custodian Prospere.

Before Sunday’s final, Laborie and Anse La Raye will meet in the third place play off.

The winning team receives $5,000, Second place team $3,000, third $2,000 and fourth place team $1,500. In additional there will be several other prizes for outstanding teams and individuals.
