Untouchables were indeed just that. They lived up to their name recently by placing first in the St Lucia Darts 501 Classic Championship staged in association with Prior’s Bar and Grill. In the team results Untouchables A placed first overall, with Amazona finishing in second position. Amazona amassed 40 points in the open play and in the final they put up a serious fight, but in the end were edged out by the champion team.
In the individual men’s competition, Thomas Labadie (Southern Pointers) took the top spot followed by Haigh Louis (Untouchables) and Nerville Labadie (Southern Pointers), third. In the final Labadie defeated Louis three games to two.
Leona Augustin (Amazona) captured top spot in the ladies competition with Delta Lionel (Amazona) second. The score was three games to two in favor of Augustin.
The following awards were also presented: Shortest Game (14 dart finish), Herickson Joseph (Amazona); Most 180’s (seven) Nerville Labadie; Highest Kill (136), Leona Augustin.
This is what Public Relations Officer of the St Lucia Darts Association, Lambert Charles, had to say at the prize giving ceremony: “First of all I want to congratulate all the teams that participated in the competition as well as the individual players. I want to big up my sponsors because it would not have been possible to have such a wonderful tournament. Although we were behind time and we had to try to rush through the finals and semis on account of COVID-19, but like everything else we were able go through with the finals.”
President of the St Lucia Darts Association, Peter Lionel thanked everyone and spoke about the effect COVID-19 will have on the association going forward: “Good evening to all the participating teams and supporters. I would like to say kudos to Mr. Denis Louis Primus, the sponsor and organizer of this tournament, and tell him what a wonderful competition it was, and ask the players to really give him a loud round of applause. This tournament was very, very timely. It really saved darts for 2020 because the plans the association had really was caught in the COVID, but this tournament was able to salvage a lot of it. I want to thank all the sponsors who were able to tag up with Mr. Primus to get this tournament together.”
He didn’t stop there: “The Darts Association is very pleased with what has happened here. I would like to tell darters to look forward to more in the limited space and time that we have. It is conceptualized mentally that in the future there will be more virtual darts. I think the Darts Association will have to look at probably our next darts tournament going through that virtual darts situation. So I want to tell darters put yourselves on guard, probably the next tournament will be a virtual tournament because COVID-19 will prevent us from coming together as we would like.”
