UWI Students Association extends gratitude

The executive of The St Lucian Students Association at Cave Hill (LUSAC) hosted a fund raising Barbecue at the Red Apple Car Wash in Beausejour, on Saturday July 6, 2013.

The event featured entertainment by DJ Play & DJ Hot K, while Chef Owen attracted patrons to the site with the scent of tasty grilled chicken, pork and fish.

The event’s success can be attributed to favourable weather conditions, contributions from generous sponsors and a committed and dedicated team of volunteers and LUSAC members.

The funds collected will assist the association with its 2013/2014 academic year initiatives, which include; Student welfare, cultural events, LUSAC’s week of activities and purchasing of local crafts and antiques for display.

The executive would like to thank its sponsors and everyone who patronized the event.

The Saint Lucian Students’ Association is a nonprofit organization that promotes the general welfare and advancement of all St Lucian students pursuing studies at the University of the West Indies: Cave Hill campus. Association members act as ambassadors for Saint Lucia at the Cave Hill Campus through many activities that highlight St Lucian culture such as their annual Food Day, Culture and Play Nights, lectures and the celebration of local holidays; as well as ‘Prayer before Exams’ exercises organized every end of semester.

Their goal on campus is to not only educate colleagues about Saint Lucia but to also create an atmosphere conducive to education. Additionally, the organization seeks to promote and inculcate a sense of St Lucian pride in aggregate Caribbean Integration Pride at the UWI Cave Hill Campus.

Moreover, this year, members have visited schools throughout the island in an effort to inform students about the importance of higher education and programs offered at the University of the West Indies. They have already visited St Mary’s College, St Joseph’s Convent and the Micoud Secondary School.

“Additionally we have executed two fundraising ventures,” a representative told the STAR. “The first was a cake sale in front of the Vieux Fort Plaza on Saturday, June 30. The second was a barbeque at the Red Apple Car Wash in Beausejour on Saturday, July 6. We would like to thank the St Lucian public, the businesses and private donors for their contributions. Your donations and presence were greatly appreciated. We look forward to your continued support as we continue executing our summer initiatives.”
