UWP candidate for Dennery North Ms. Phera Polius to be Sworn in as a Senator

Retired lecturer and Dennery native Ms. Angelina Phera Polius has been appointed and will be sworn in as a Government Senator in the Parliament of Saint Lucia at the next sitting of the Senate. Ms. Polius joins the Senate as the 9th member of the Upper House. An energetic and dynamic community activist, people-centric leader and educator, Ms. Polius is humbled to serve the people of Saint Lucia.

“Being appointed a member of the Upper House of the Parliament of my country is really an honour,” she said. It is indeed a golden opportunity that I have been afforded to represent the voices of constituents, review legislation and help to shape key policies and processes that will augur well for the people of Saint Lucia.”

Ms. Polius holds a bachelor’s degree with First Class Honours in Education (UWI) and a Masters in New Literacies (University of Sheffield). She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education with UNICAF University in Organizational Change and Leadership. Cumulatively, she has over thirty years of service as a teacher and was a lecturer for almost 13 years at the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College Division of Teacher Education and Educational Administration.

Ms. Polius has contributed to the professional development of several pre-service and in-service teachers at all levels of the education system in Saint Lucia. Currently she is an e-tutor and course coordinator and research supervisor in the Masters in Literacy Instruction Program of the University of the West Indies, Open Campus, teaching and interacting with educators across the Caribbean region.

Ms. Polius looks forward to serving as the latest member of the Upper House and states that her experience in the community and nationally as a community activist and educator will allow her to share different perspectives on issues impacting our nation.

According to Ms. Polius, “The wealth of experience and knowledge gained over the years through my active involvement in community development interventions coupled with my expertise as an educator and teacher trainer, will bring to our discussions and debates, new and diverse perspectives on pertinent matters that are brought before the senate. As a people-centric leader and formidable team player, I believe that such attributes and disposition can positively influence the way we express value and appreciation for each other and can help influence and shape policy.”

Ms. Angelina Phera Polius will be the 5th female Senator of the Upper House. The Government of Saint Lucia would like to thank outgoing Senator Timothy Mangal for his service and wishes him well.
